Approved reflective vest for motorcycles mandatory from October 2026

Starting October 1, 2026, the reflective vest will become part of the mandatory equipment for motorcycles and scooters in Spain. If you ride a motorcycle, carrying an approved high-visibility vest will no longer be just a recommended precaution but will become an item you must carry with you on your road trips.

This high-visibility yellow vest is certified according to the EN ISO 20471, Class II standard and combines fluorescent fabric with wide reflective bands around the torso. It is lightweight, easy to fold, and takes up little space, making it perfect to carry under the seat when possible, inside a saddlebag, top case, backpack, or luggage bag.

Don't wait for the new regulation to come into force: add a basic item to your motorcycle gear now to increase your visibility and be prepared in case of a breakdown, accident, or emergency stop.

New regulation for motorcycles: reflective vest mandatory from October 1, 2026

The reform of the General Traffic Regulations introduced by Royal Decree 518/2026 establishes that, from October 1, 2026, motorcycles must include an approved reflective vest among their mandatory equipment.

For private motorcyclists, this does not mean it is mandatory to always ride with the vest on. The obligation is to carry it on the motorcycle and use it when necessary according to the regulations.

  • From October 1, 2026: motorcycles and scooters must carry an approved reflective vest.
  • It is not mandatory to wear it while riding in the general case of private motorcyclists.
  • It must be used when the rider leaves the motorcycle and remains on the roadway or shoulder of an interurban road, for example due to a breakdown, accident, or other incident.
  • Professional motorcyclists must use high-visibility garments during their activity, regardless of the type of road.

EN ISO 20471 Class II certified

Not all yellow vests offer the same features. This model is certified according to EN ISO 20471, Class II, the European standard for high-visibility garments.

The fluorescent yellow fabric helps improve visibility during the day, while its reflective bands around the torso reflect light from headlights and other light sources, increasing the user's visibility in low-light situations.

The certification indicated by the manufacturer is maintained for up to 25 wash cycles, following the garment care instructions.

When does a motorcyclist have to use the vest?

The new regulation distinguishes between carrying the vest on the motorcycle and having to wear it.

From October 1, 2026, the approved reflective vest must be part of the kit that accompanies the motorcycle when riding on the road. However, a private motorcyclist will not normally have to ride with it on.

It must be used when you have to leave the motorcycle and remain on the roadway or shoulder of an interurban road, as may happen after:

  • A breakdown.
  • An accident.
  • A flat tire or mechanical problem.
  • An incident that forces you to stop the motorcycle.
  • An emergency situation by the roadside.

High-visibility vest for professional motorcyclists

The regulation sets additional requirements for those who use the motorcycle as a work tool. Professional riders must use high-visibility garments during their activity, regardless of the type of road they travel on.

This affects profiles such as couriers and other professionals whose work involves regularly traveling by motorcycle or scooter.

Lightweight, compact, and easy to store on any motorcycle

One of the main advantages of this vest is its small size when folded. It is made of 100% polyester of 125 g/m², so it is lightweight and can be easily stored in the available space on the motorcycle.

You can carry it:

  • Under the seat, when there is enough space.
  • Inside saddlebags.
  • In a top case.
  • In a backpack.
  • In a tool bag or luggage.

Its front velcro closure allows you to put it on quickly when you need to get off the bike and make yourself visible to other road users.

Universal for motorcycles and scooters

As a garment for the rider, this vest is universal and suitable for users of any brand and model of motorcycle or scooter.

It can be used with Harley-Davidson, Indian Motorcycle, Honda, Yamaha, Kawasaki, Suzuki, BMW Motorrad, Triumph, Ducati, KTM and other brands, regardless of the year or model of the motorcycle.

It is suitable for custom, cruiser, touring, naked, trail, sport, classic motorcycles and scooters.

Available sizes

Available in:

  • M
  • L
  • XL
  • 2XL

Tip: remember that the vest may need to be worn over a motorcycle jacket. Take into account the thickness of your gear when choosing the size so you can put it on comfortably and properly close the front velcro.

Get ready for the new regulation in October 2026

A reflective vest takes up very little space, can remain stored on the motorcycle, and can be essential when you have to stop on the road. With the entry into force of the new regulation on October 1, 2026, it will also become part of the mandatory equipment for motorcycles and scooters.

Equip your motorcycle in advance and always carry a high-visibility reflective vest with you.
